Parry Nutraceuticals algal facility has been awarded the HACCP certification by BVQI, Netherlands. We are probably the only algal facility to have obtained these certifications. This reflects our commitment to food safety. Given below is a note on HACCP.

HACCP - a state of the art approach to Food Safety

New challenges in monitoring the quality and safety of food supply have prompted the FDA and regulatory authorities of different countries to consider adopting a HACCP-based food safety system on a wider basis.
One of the most important challenges is the increasing number of new food pathogens. For example, there have been recent cases of health hazards reported in Asia due to consumption of poor quality food supplements, referred in toxicology reports. Food-borne illness from bacteria's --such as Escherichia coli, Salmonella or Clostridium Perfringens -- has also become deep concerns among the consumers. There is increasing public health concern about contamination of food like presence of toxins or high level of heavy metals.

Another important factor is the size of the food industry and the diversity of products and processes. The trade volumes have grown tremendously--in the amount of domestic food manufactured and the number and kinds of foods imported. At the same time, FDA, state and local agencies have more or less the same limited level of resources to ensure food safety.

The increased responsibility of the intermediaries, re-sellers and non-primary marketers of food product further fuel the need for HACCP certification, particularly in the food and food supplement industries. These companies are primarily held responsible for the quality and safety of the products supplied by them more than the primary grower.

Parry Nutraceuticals, manufacturer of micro algal raw materials such as Spirulina, Dunaliella based natural mixed carotenoids and other carotenoids has acquired the HACCP certification for its algal facilities from BVQI, giving confidence to our customers that we are servicing them with products that is sure on quality and also SAFE.

HACCP comprises of seven principles:

Analyse food hazards: biological, chemical or physical.
Identify critical control points: raw materials, storage, processing, distribution and consumption.
Determine critical control limits and preventive measures: for example, minimum cooking temperature and time
Monitor the critical control points.
Establish corrective actions.
Record keeping
Verification: system audit.
